Believe it or not, 2025 is almost over. As we wind down and get ready to spend time with friends and family, here’s just some of what Expel accomplished in 2025. Happy holidays!

Here’s some highlights from 2025 at Expel:
- You all spent 33,116 minutes reading our blog. Thank you!
- You watched 44,388 minutes of our video content, which was a new record for our YouTube channel. More to come in the year!
- We used the word “identity” 382 times. Meanwhile, merk used it 525,600 times (or once per minute per day all year).
- We hired 117 new Expletives this year in 3 countries and 25 states, with an average fill time of 44 days
- We hosted (at HQ and across the country) 40 team touchdowns for in-person work
- Expletives volunteered to host 14 Live ‘n’ Learns across a wide variety of topics ranging from negotiating to pumpkin carving
- 22% of our Expletives were promoted or had a job change between Q1 and Q3, with more to come by the end of the year!
January
- Expel celebrated its seventh SOC birthday on January 31, meaning at that moment, our SOC has been protecting customers for 3.7 million minutes (and two of our original SOC team members celebrated their 8 year anniversary at Expel this year).
February
- Alex Glass, VP, Global Channel & Alliances, was named to the 2025 CRN Channel Chiefs list.
- We launched a new flexible data lake offering with Sumo Logic to boost customer compliance and meet mounting data storage needs.
- We held our first annual Partner of the Year Awards and recognized some great winners with customized pro-wrestling-style belts (yes, really).
- The Q1 2025 Forrester Wave™: Managed Detection and Response Services research report dropped, and Forrester analysts named Expel a Leader.
March
- Scott Fuselier joined our team as Expel’s Chief Revenue Officer.
- We upgraded our MDR coverage to include Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, expanding our cloud protection footprint.
- CRN® recognized Expel in their 2025 Partner Program Guide for the third consecutive year.
April
- Proactive defense for email threats launched to expand our MDR coverage to protection against phishing, BEC, and inbox-based attacks.
- Our newly-forming threat intel team released research on Moroccan cybercrime group Atlas Lion, and we even wrote a second part (and it was pretty popular in the news, too).
May
- Four of Expel’s partner team members landed on the 2025 Women of the Channel List by CRN® (Kaitlin Waite, Lisa Desimine, Darcy Relihan, and Natalie Visconti-Clendenin).
June
- Our Expletives celebrated Pride Month by featuring trailblazers (historical and current) in the community, and ended the month with a virtual drag cocktail-making class (editor’s note: as an attendee, this was one of my favorite events of the year!).
July
- We released our expansive Cybersecurity Talent Index report, diving into how Fortune 100 enterprises can improve hiring and retention strategies for SecOps.
August
- Wiz launched Wiz Defend with Expel as a launch partner to upgrade cloud security from a static posture to active defense.
- Our threat intel team investigated ManualFinder, a specific trojan malware masquerading as a PUP (not the fun, furry kind).
September
- CEO Dave Merkel (affectionately known as merk) made the Washingtonian Magazine’s 2025 Tech Titans list (for like the fifth year in a row—NBD).
- We relaunched our LinkedIn newsletter, eXtra eXtra, to bring industry news back to the forefront of your feed (and inbox).
- Jessica Dodson joined Expel as our new Chief Marketing Officer.
October
- Gartner published their 2025 Gartner Market Guide for Managed Detection and Response, and recognized Expel as a Representative Vendor for the seventh year in a row.
- We ramped up our threat intelligence program and officially unveiled Expel Intel to turn threat signals into a shield for our customers and community.
- We announced an integration with Google SecOps to deliver managed detection and response (MDR) for Google Cloud customers.
- We shared some great cybersecurity costume inspiration over on LinkedIn.
November
- Ruxie, our automation engine, gained an (AI) brain and expanded her capabilities to provide threat analysts with smarter triage and richer insights.
- Dylan Shearer, FP&A Manager, taught his third pasta making Live n’ Learn session (we just can’t get enough, okay?).
- Expel co-founder Justin Bajko transitioned to new role as our Chief Strategy Officer.
- We produced an incredible docu-style video, laying out a university phishing attempt that turned out to be anything but ordinary.
- Deloitte named Expel to the 2025 Technology Fast 500™ Rankings for the 5th consecutive year.
December
- We celebrated the end of another great year with a virtual magic show from The Magic of Coby (you might have seen him on America’s Got Talent).
- We announced a new integration for Expel MDR to support Panther SIEM.
- Our Expel Intel team shared a deeper look at ContagiousInterview (via Reddit), a campaign in which DPRK threat actors are running phishing campaigns targeting developers and engineers through fake job interviews
- We launched a podcast! Find the Job Security Podcast on your app of choice!
