Herndon, Va. – January 12, 2022 – Expel, the managed detection and response (MDR) provider that aims to make great security as accessible as the internet, today announced two additions to its leadership team following its Series E fundraise and over $1 billion valuation. Jennifer Lawrence joins the company as Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) and Kelly Fiedler joins as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).
In their new roles, Lawrence and Fiedler will work closely to drive Expel’s continued growth through amplified sales and go-to-market activities as the company introduces new capabilities, expands partner relationships, accelerates international expansion, and further matures business operations.
“We’re delighted to welcome Jennifer and Kelly to our crew and leadership team,” said Dave Merkel, CEO of Expel. “It’s an exciting time at Expel and it was important to us to have the right leaders at the helm as we enter this next chapter. Kelly and Jennifer are highly experienced at growing successful companies in this field and will play a key role in helping us reach our goals for 2022 and beyond. Equally important, they lead with the excitement, compassion, and entrepreneurial spirit that are at the heart of Expel’s culture, and our teams are excited to have their guidance and support.”
As CRO, Lawrence will oversee Expel’s sales execution and go-to-market strategy. Lawrence has over 20 years of experience building and scaling SaaS companies. Before joining Expel, she led both the global Duo Security sales team and the Cisco Secure SaaS team. During her time at Duo, she grew the business from $9M ARR and eight sales people to over half a billion in revenue and 400 sales people.
“Expel has all the right components in place to go really big over the next several years – cutting edge tech, customers who love them, and a humble and smart team,” said Lawrence. “Expel’s commitment to making it easy for the customer to buy and use innovative solutions is like none I’ve ever seen. We have the right products at the right time in the market, and there are exciting areas to expand – partners, international, new segments, lots of unique opportunities. I can’t wait to take these components and help accelerate our team towards something really special.”
As CMO, Fiedler will lead Expel’s marketing team to drive the company into its next phase of growth. She brings over 25 years of technology marketing experience, helping both large organizations and startups get themselves on the map and find their voice. Before joining Expel, Fiedler was most recently CMO at RSA Security. Previously, she was the VP of Marketing at Aveksa, which was acquired by RSA. She also held numerous leadership positions at Unica, where she was instrumental in growing the business to more than $100M and helped lead its successful IPO in 2005.
“In today’s highly in-demand managed detection and response market, Expel’s incredible team brings a unique approach and fabulous tech to the table,” said Fiedler. “I’m excited about the opportunity to help accelerate our growth and share how our emphasis on collaboration and transparency can help security teams make space to focus on what’s most important to their business.”

The company offers 24×7 security monitoring and response for cloud, hybrid and on-premises environments. Expel uses the security signals customers already have so organizations can get more value from their existing security investments.
